“I’ve been a member of Gold’s Gym since in opened in April 2005.  I came several times a week to the gym, but never really saw any change in my weight.  In January of 2007, at 219 pounds, I decided I had had enough of being overweight, I was going to lose the weight or cancel my membership.

I signed up for the I Lost it at the Club program where I met Laura.  I decided a nutrition program may be what I was missing.  I met with Laura and she reviewed my current eating habits and devised a personalized eating plan for me that was based on my height, weight, age and level of activity.  Immediately I began losing weight, it wasn’t fast, 2-4 pounds a week.  I couldn’t believe I was actually seeing the scale go down!  I was surprised by how many calories she wanted me to eat each day and the volume of food that was in my personalized program.

The biggest change for me was having breakfast every day.  I used to drink coffee all morning and eat a light lunch around 1:00 pm.  This set me up to be starving by dinner time.  I was consuming too may calories in the evening.  To rev up my metabolism I had to eat a big breakfast, medium lunch and a light dinner.  I also have two snacks a day and lots of water.

Prior to meeting Laura and beginning my new plan, I was just drifting along, trying to make good food decisions, but ultimately sabotaging my hard work at the gym by overeating.    There was always a reason to overeat – it was book club, it was a nice restaurant, the kids like this meal.  I never said no to dessert, high fat foods, wine, ice cream.

What I was missing was a Plan of Action.  My plan consists of eating a balanced diet and working out 4-6 times a week.  I love the food I eat – fresh fruits & veggies, lean protein, good fats and starches.  I know that the food I’m eating now, gives me the energy to get out of bed and hit the treadmill.  If I was eating my old way, I would never be able to keep up with my current schedule!!

In four months I’ve lost 38 pounds,  17 inches and 4 dress sizes.  I have never lost such a significant amount of weight in my life.  My goal is to lose 20 to 30 more and I know I will do it, slowly and steadily while following my plan.  My nutrition plan also isn’t a diet with a beginning and end – it’s a plan for life.

This May I ran the Gold’s Gym 5K charity race.  It was the highlight of my Spring.  I never thought I would be someone who could run in a road race – I didn’t win, I’m not very fast, but I DID IT.  My family was there cheering me on and I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of myself.

If you feel like I was, just drifting by hoping for a change, don’t wait any longer.  Sign up to meet Laura and develop your own nutrition plan.  With a good eating plan you’re 80% of the way there!  Laura’s knowledge of food and nutrition, along with her enthusiastic support, will assist you with your fitness goals.”
